As the start of the log season looms ever closer we have been busy at Logworld Surrey getting ready.

Between the months of April thru July we have some precious downtime to prepare for the next season. During this time we continue to process the hardwood timber our sister company Hedgesntrees Ltd. brings in and stockpile as much of our kiln dried firewood as possible to cope with the influx of early orders in August.

We also use this time to perform any routine maintenance to our kiln and our biomass boiler which provides the heat for our kiln, and to implement any upgrades we have planned. This year we replaced the floor in our kiln as it had taken a bit of a bashing with the constant loading and unloading of big heavy crates of hardwood. This new smooth marine grade ply floor makes it much easier for us to load and unload the kiln. We have also replaced the old internal insulation ecotherm boards with a closed-cell spray foam. This new insulation method is far superior to the old method as it it has much better insulation properties. This closed-cell foam also does not allow any condensate to settle on it and so the kiln repels and expels moisture far more efficiently. Without wanting to bore you with any more kiln tech talk what we hope to have achieved with these upgrades are as follows:

  1. Consistently higher internal kiln temperature
  2. More uniform internal kiln temperature from floor to ceiling
  3. A drier environment inside kiln from start to finish of drying cycle
  4. Reduced drying times
  5. Our boiler will burn less woodchip to heat kiln due to increased thermal efficiency.

All these improvements ultimately mean we are now producing an even drier firewood product and each batch that comes out the kiln is even more consistent than before.

Place your order now for our top quality kiln dried hardwood before we get too busy!
